Created by Benjamin Franklin in 1754, the “Join, or Die” symbol was used as a revolutionary rallying cry. On May 21, 1754, The Boston Gazette took Franklin’s Iconic made the snake stronger and more deadly looking and added the phrase “Unite and Conquer.”
The seeds for American Revolution were planted and the iconic symbol spread throughout the colonies. It was used throughout the revolutionary war as a sign of American Independence, and was later adopted by South Carolina confederates during the civil war.
